Zhongqiu Bo Bing (中秋博饼)

Zhongqiu bo bing, or "betting on moon cakes", is a gambling game played around Mid-Autumn Festival. It originated in Xiamen and later spread to Zhangzhou's Longhai, Quanzhou's Anhai, and Jinmen.

It is a simple and humorous game played with six dice. Just throw the dice into a bowl, and the various sound represent the different types of awards you will win.

The game has six awards named after high-achievers on the ancient imperial examinations: zhuangyuan, bangyan, tanhua, jinshi, juren, and xiucai.

The game is said to have been created by Zheng Chenggong, an admiral during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The game was meant to help ease homesickness among Zheng's soldiers when he stationed them to retake Taiwan, which had been occupied by Dutch invaders in 1624.
