Fujian's foreign trade up 33% in Jan-Oct

The foreign trade of Fujian province in the January-October period this year grew 33 percent year-on-year to 1.52 trillion yuan ($238.33 billion), according to Fuzhou Customs.

During this period, the imports and exports of the province rose 37.9 percent and 29.6 percent year-on-year to 637.55 billion yuan and 881.77 billion yuan respectively.

The imports and exports of the province's general trade in the first 10 months reached 1.16 trillion yuan, up 36.2 percent year-on-year, accounting for 76.6 percent of the total, while processing trade hit 192.3 billion yuan, up 21.1 percent.

From January to October, the province's private sector's foreign trade reached 805.45 billion yuan, up 43.2 percent year-on-year, accounting for 53 percent of the province's total, while foreign-invested companies and State-owned companies realized double-digit growth.

Statistics showed that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the United States, and the European Union were Fujian's top three trading partners in the first 10 months of the year. Their trade volumes with Fujian grew 33.1 percent, 28.4 percent, and 28.7 percent to 300.8 billion yuan, 188.8 billion yuan and 165.464 billion yuan, respectively.

In addition, Fujian's trade with countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiatives increased by 32.4 percent year-on-year to 522.99 billion yuan in the same period.

Mechanical and electrical products, as well as labor-intensive products such as textiles and garments were the major exports, growing 26.7 percent and 21.7 percent to 324.37 billion yuan and 297.82 billion yuan, respectively.

Prices of major imports, including coal and crude oil, grew 32.6 percent and 43.5 percent year-on-year, according to Fuzhou Customs.
