According to local media reports on May 5, Fujian province welcomed 17.17 million tourists during the May Day holiday, which ran from April 30 to May 4, resulting in a tourism revenue of 11.67 billion yuan ($1.76 billion).

During the five-day holiday, the number of visitors to Fujian's 4A-level and above scenic spots, such as Gulang Islet and the Site of the Gutian Meeting, increased month-on-month. On May 3, more than 350,000 people visited these scenic spots, which was a 54.3 percent increase from April 30.

Short-distance tours, tours of the neighboring areas, and city leisure tours were the most popular tours for Fujian residents during the five-day holiday. Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, a historical and cultural district in Fuzhou, received 70,000 visitors during the holiday.

Camping trips also soared during the holiday in Fujian province, particularly around the coastline. Pingtan, for example, provided a variety of themed travel itineraries, such as hiking and camping, to appeal to a wide range of visitors.

Fujian province promoted a host of cultural tourism events throughout the five-day holiday, including over 200 performances in theaters and scenic spots, both online and offline. The province held ICH exhibitions and experience activities with the theme "the artistry of intangible cultural heritage inheritors brings people a better life".

In addition, over 160 exhibitions and social education events were held in the province's museums to allow the public to experience the allure of cultural heritages.
