CPPCC member is known for cultural concerns
Renowned as a "culture CPPCC member", two-thirds of Wu Zhiming's proposals concerned cultural issues over the past two decades.
"I really prefer this title, which continuously spurs me to meticulously perform my duties and contribute my part to the building of and enhancing confidence for Chinese culture," said Wu, a member of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee from East China's Fujian province.
It is deeply ingrained in his mind to pay attention to culture, especially rural culture.
In 2018, he presided over a research project, Boosting Rural Rejuvenation, through applying big data, which took three months and took him and his team to more than 100 villages in the province.
The research was transformed to the basis of a proposal that was considered one of the key proposals of the China National Democratic Construction Association and attracted wide attention in society.
During the two sessions last year, Wu made proposals on rural culture building and plans for rural construction.
Wu and his fellow team members conducted research themed "Beautiful Village Building" in Ningde city, where he paid visits to a number of villages. "I used to live in the village when I was a child and am delighted the village has expanded. However, the pure natural beauty in my memory has faded," he said.
He said the lack of a construction plan and inadequate government oversight led to haphazard construction of rural houses, which resulted in uninhabitable houses.
"In terms of building beautiful villages, we should concentrate our efforts to pass on the traditional farming culture and preserving national unique cultures to achieve harmony with nature," he added.
