The number of passenger visits traveling by ships between Xiamen, Fujian province, and Kinmen, an island administered by Taiwan, surpassed 1 million as of 11:30 am on Friday after 344 passengers got off the ship at the Wutong Passenger Terminal in Xiamen.

The route is part of the Mini Three Links, which refers to small-scale trade, shipping and postal services between Fujian province, Kinmen Island and the Matsu Island group. It resumed operation on Jan 7 last year after an almost three-year suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to statistics from the Xiamen Maritime Safety Administration, the Xiamen-Kinmen passenger route has operated 5,487 voyages since its resumption, transporting 1,002,261 passengers. Of the passengers, 498,255 were outbound, and 504,006 were inbound. The average vessel occupancy rate was 58.36 percent.

Since resumption, the round-trip routes have increased from two per day to 16.
