Fujian province has introduced a pioneering science fund for young scholars featuring four distinct project categories, with applications opening in 2024. This initiative aims to enhance the tiered funding system and bolster the development of emerging scientific and technological talent in basic research.

First, the selection and evaluation mechanism will be optimized. Funding scientific research and discovering talent are both prioritized, providing capable and potential young scientific and technological personnel with more pathways for growth and development.

Additionally, the initiative includes a progressive funding framework for young talent in basic research, aligning with the National Natural Science Foundation of China's funding system to further nurture young scientific and technological talent.

Furthermore, there will be a significant increase in the amount of funding, a move which is aimed at encouraging outstanding young scientific and technological personnel to engage in forward-looking, integrated, and innovative basic research focused on scientific and technological challenges.

The initiative also prioritizes the development of young female scientific and technological talent by relaxing age restrictions for female applicants in certain projects, thereby creating more opportunities for their engagement in basic research.

Finally, efforts will focus on promoting collaboration between Fujian and Taiwan, encouraging young scientific and technological personnel from Taiwan to participate in youth science fund projects, fostering integrated development between the two regions.
