The Fujian provincial government recently issued a special plan for the province's health development during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.

The plan sets 22 major health development indicators for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, including raising average life expectancy by about one year, reducing maternal mortality to below 12 per 100,000 and lowering the infant mortality rate to below 4 per 1,000.

The plan also states that the number of beds in medical institutions per 1,000 permanent residents should reach 6.1, and that personal health expenditure should remain at about 25 percent of total health expenditure.

Fujian has also identified 10 major tasks including establishing a health-centered new development pattern, building a barrier for public health and safety which places prevention at the forefront, optimizing medical resource allocation and expanding international exchanges.

By 2025, a mature public health system and an integrated medical and health service system will be established to bolster Fujian's health development. Everyone in the province, be it those living in the downtown areas or those from the countryside, will have access to convenient health services and receive the same medical treatments for severe illnesses.
