Pingtan charts high-level growth path for new Five-Year Plan
During a press conference on Jan 12, officials from the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone detailed the region's achievements during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) and outlined strategies for the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30).
Over the past five years, Pingtan has experienced rapid growth in emerging industries such as marine engineering, advanced manufacturing, and the low-altitude economy. The region has also developed a comprehensive, one-stop intelligent cross-border data service hub, and more than 3,500 digital economy enterprises have been established.
Pingtan has also successfully hosted international events like the Asian Baseball Championship and the Beach Handball World Championship. It has launched five major themed events including a kite surfing festival and a racing carnival. The Keqiutou archaeological site was named one of China's top 10 archaeological discoveries, significantly boosting cultural tourism.
Economic cooperation across the Taiwan Strait has strengthened, with trade between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan growing substantially. The annual growth rate of imports and exports to Taiwan has reached 21.7 percent.
Pingtan is advancing free trade zone reforms. Five reform and innovation initiatives, such as cross-Strait credit information exchange, have been recognized as national best practice cases, with 15 promoted nationwide.
Pingtan is also committed to improving quality of life by integrating urban and rural development and has been recognized nationally as a "Harmonious and Beautiful Islands".
Looking ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan, Pingtan will focus on six key areas:
• Developing a highly recognizable international tourism island.
• Establishing a high-level platform for Fujian-Taiwan cooperation.
• Creating a high-level window for global engagement.
• Building a high-level emerging industrial zone.
• Developing a high-standard, high-end service area.
• Creating a high-quality, livable community.
