Xu Tiantian, the founding principal of Beijing's DnA_Design and Architecture, made history as the first Chinese recipient of the 2025 Wolf Prize in Architecture. The Wolf Foundation, renowned for recognizing outstanding achievements in the sciences and the arts worldwide, commended Xu for "her architecture that transformed villages throughout China economically, socially, and culturally".

Hailing from Putian city in Fujian province, Xu's architectural journey was influenced by her upbringing in intricately designed courtyards and corridors, nurturing her deep passion for the craft. After excelling at Tsinghua University's School of Architecture and later progressing her studies at Harvard University, she gained invaluable experience in Boston and Rotterdam before returning to her hometown and establishing her firm in 2004.

Xu focused on a unique approach to rural development methods after her return, often described as "architectural acupuncture" rather than large-scale transformations. By integrating local materials and construction techniques, and prioritizing communal and public spaces, she facilitated a transformation of rural architecture based on inclusivity and sustainability, igniting rural vitality.

In Zhejiang's Songyang county, DnA_Design and Architecture revitalized numerous small villages by constructing over 20 public buildings, including the Shimei Bridge connecting two villages, outdoor bamboo pavilions, water management centers, as well as practical structures like tofu factories and rice wine facilities.

Xu's architectural philosophy emphasizes the use of natural materials such as wood, bricks, and stone, used with precision to create remarkably tranquil effects in her projects. Xu's dedication has not only garnered international acclaim but also catalyzed significant improvements in rural areas, earning admiration and pride from her native Fujian community, while inspiring a renewed focus on rural architecture and sustainable development.
