The China (Fujian) - Hungary Cultural Exchange Week commenced on Oct 6 in Fuzhou, capital of East China's Fujian province, with the program scheduled to run to Oct 13.

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of China-Hungary diplomatic relations, the event aims to deepen cultural and tourism exchanges, foster mutual understanding and strengthen friendship between the two nations.

Through art exhibitions, concerts and various other activities, the event will showcase the cultural richness of both China and Hungary.

The opening day featured the "Colorful Symphony of Light and Shadow" exhibition, displaying 40 selected works by Hungarian artist Ader Orsolya, whose Chinese name is Mulan, and Fujian artist Tang Chenghua.

Mulan's work combines the essence of European art with the traditions of the Hungarian nation, while Tang's work shows the breadth and depth of Chinese art and the vitality of modern art.

"Many people are curious why I have the Chinese name of Mulan," Orsolya said at the opening ceremony.

"Since I was 7 years old, I have known the story of Hua Mulan and hoped to be a confident, brave and strong woman like her," she added.

Tang highlighted the diverse artistic styles in conveying their inner emotions and spiritual essence, emphasizing the exhibition's promotion of "art without borders" and the significance of cultural integration.

As part of the exchange, Hungarian pianist Alex Szilasi presented "The Charm of Piano in the Orient" special concert, performing classical pieces by Chopin and Liszt at the Fujian Grand Theatre.

Peter Varfi, consul general of Hungary in Guangzhou, underscored the event's role in deepening cultural exchanges between Fujian and Hungary, symbolizing a meaningful step towards mutual learning and understanding.

Despite their geographical distance apart, the shared values and aspirations of the people of Fujian and Hungary were said to reflect enduring and sweet friendship akin to Hungary's famous Tokaji wine.
