This year's Internet Civilization Conference will be held in Xiamen, Fujian province, on July 18, featuring an opening ceremony, a summit forum, 12 sub-forums and various activities, China's top internet regulator announced on Thursday.

The conference, which will last one-and-a-half days, aims to help strengthen internet governance and build a purified online environment for society, according to Niu Yibing, deputy head of the Cyberspace Administration of China.

He said that a number of online celebrities, internet specialists and guests from government agencies, internet enterprises and social organizations will attend.

Attendees will exchange ideas in sub-forums about internet issues such as combating rumors, digital tourism, personal information protection and data security, he added.

Zhang Yan, head of the Fujian Provincial Publicity Department, said preparations are being made for the event, including plans for volunteers, security checks and the exhibition layout, to ensure participants receive adequate service.

Last year's conference was held in Tianjin. It called for finding common ground in terms of culture to promote international communication over the internet and mutual learning among civilizations.
