Zhangzhou, a coastal city in Fujian province, will step up efforts to boost the real economy and accelerate the construction of the Gulei Refining and Chemical Integration Project, said Zhang Guowang, Party chief of the city and also a member of the Fujian delegation to the 20th CPC National Congress.

Over the past 10 years, Zhangzhou's industry has seen tremendous progress, with total industrial output increasing from 268.05 billion yuan ($37.4 billion) in 2012 to 695.32 billion yuan in 2021.

In addition, Zhangzhou's total economic output exceeded 500 billion yuan, and its GDP has ranked among the top 50 cities in China over the past 10 years, Zhang said.

Zhangzhou is beefing up efforts to speed up modern industrial system construction, such as the construction of the Gulei Refining and Chemical Integration project, aiming to become a world-class ecological petrochemical base, according to Zhang.

As Zhangzhou is entering a period of upgrading industries, integrating digitalization, transforming urbanization, deepening marketization, and equalizing public services, it will bolster efforts to serve and integrate into China's new development pattern, promote high-quality development in an all-around way, and accelerate the construction of a modern coastal city, to contribute to China's construction of a modern socialist country, Zhang noted.
