The expansion project of Fuzhou Changle International Airport was approved by the East China Regional Administration of Civil Aviation Administration of China and the Fujian Provincial Development and Reform Commission on Aug 25.

With a total budget of 20.99 billion yuan ($3.25 billion), the project includes the construction of areas such as the new T2 terminal, the transportation center, surface parking lots, the airport apron and the approach tower, as well as the upgrading of the T1 terminal.

Fuzhou Changle International Airport will be able to handle an annual passenger throughput of 36 million persons by 2030 following the completion of the project.

The construction of the T2 terminal includes a four-floor main building and two 25-meter-high waiting corridors on the southern and the northern wings. The T2 terminal will be used for both domestic and international flights.

Part of the infrastructure for international flights in the T1 terminal will be converted to handle domestic flights.
