CATL, Shanghai to cooperate on new energy

Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited, a global leader of new energy innovative technologies, signed strategic agreements with the Shanghai municipal government on Aug 18.

Following the goal of peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2060, CATL will establish projects like the global innovation center, international function headquarters, the research institute for future energy, as well as a high-end manufacturing base in Shanghai.

The global innovation center will focus on innovations in advanced materials, structural design, extreme manufacturing, and business models. It will also undertake related international business functions.

The research institute for future energy will cooperate with Shanghai Jiao Tong University to cultivate talents, as well as boost scientific research and innovation to develop forward-looking technologies in the new energy field.

The high-end manufacturing base will rely on CATL's latest manufacturing technology to build a green and efficient demonstration manufacturing base in Lin-gang Special Area, Shanghai.

Headquartered in Ningde, Fujian province, CATL has been focusing on innovation throughout its history. As of the end of 2020, the company is home to 5,592 research and development staff members, as well as more than 7,000 patents. It has established four R&D centers in Ningde, Fujian province, Liyang, Jiangsu province, Shanghai municipality, as well as Munich, Germany.

Through years of development, CATL has also built six production bases across the world, applying new technologies like 5G, artificial intelligence, image recognition, and machine learning to ensure the reliability and stability of the whole product lifecycle.
