Guests attending the 44th session of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee planted trees in Liangcuo, a historic neighborhood in Fuzhou, Fujian province, on July 17.

Nearly 100 Chinese and foreign guests planted two banyan trees and 100 mountain cherry trees on the 10,000-square meter area as a gift for Fuzhou. They also left best wishes on the signs of planted trees.

As banyan trees are its official city tree, Fuzhou is also known as Rongcheng, or "City of Banyans". The city's forest coverage rate has reached 58.36 percent, ranking second among the nation's provincial capital cities.

In order to host the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee, Fuzhou has been enhancing the upgrading of the ancient city by not only focusing on the protection of ancient trees, but also planting trees in Minnan-style gardens in order to form ecological historical and cultural blocks with ancient houses, streets, and trees.
