At the 11th Plenary Session of the 10th CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, which was held on Dec 21 in Fuzhou, capital of East China's Fujian province, the province published its economic and social development plans for the next five years and its long-range objectives through the year 2035.

Fujian has made remarkable progress during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), with its regional GDP rising from 2.85 trillion yuan ($436.37 billion) in 2016 to 4.24 trillion yuan last year, jumping from 11th highest in the nation in 2015 to 8th in 2019.

At the session, a number of key tasks to further promote the city's economic and social development during the upcoming 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) were rolled out, focusing on innovative, coordinated, green and open development.

The province will continue to improve the well-being of its residents over the next five years, and it will further protect its natural environment as it seeks to become a demonstration province for the "Beautiful China" project.

Efforts will be made to promote the development of science and technology as well as the high-quality development of the province's manufacturing industry. In addition, a total of 20 industrial clusters, each with an output value of 100 billion yuan, will be cultivated.

Fujian will continue to reform and open up, cultivate new growth drivers, and improve government functions in an effort to promote the development of the China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

The province will continue to make breakthroughs in technological innovation by accelerating its digital economy from 2021 to 2025, and several cutting-edge technologies will be developed in order to boost its competitiveness.

Furthermore, new ways to integrate development across the Straits will be explored. Supportive measures will also be rolled out to encourage Taiwan enterprises to participate in Fujian's industrial development.
