Fuzhou's digital transformation over 20 years

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Fujian's digital construction, and in that time  Fujian has played a leading role in the development of digital transformation in China, according to a local media report.

Fuzhou, the capital city of Fujian, has paid great attention to constructing digital Fuzhou, with a string of application scenarios having been created in the city, such as online hospitals, using QR codes for taking buses and subways, and online government affairs.

According to statistics, the economic value of Fuzhou's digital economy hit 390 billion yuan ($57.87 billion) in 2019, accounting for more than 40 percent of the city's total GDP. It has become a major driving force behind Fuzhou's economic and social development.

Fuzhou authorities said that the economic value of the city's digital economy is expected to exceed 450 billion yuan in 2020.

Fuzhou Software Park has witnessed the city's rapid growth in the digital economy and is now home to 770 high-tech enterprises related to the software industry, more than six times that of 2000.

The Southeast Big Data Industrial Park of China in Fuzhou, which has the largest data storage capacity in Fujian, is now a gathering place for big data enterprises, including 185 internet of things companies.

The new wave of technological and industrial revolution featuring digital technologies has sped up development of Fuzhou's digital industrialization, and fostered the growth of new business models.

The development of new generation information technology has also boosted the city's traditional industries, such as textile manufacturing and agricultural production.

The city's digital transformation has also improved residents' living standards and brought great convenience in their daily lives such as seeing a doctor and shopping, as well as the construction of a digital government and digital society.
