Cross-Strait Youth Festival to open in Fuzhou

The seventh edition of Cross-Straits Youth Festival is scheduled to be held in Fuzhou, capital city of East China's Fujian province from Aug 5-9, a press conference said.

Firstly held in 2013, the festival has become an important platform for communication and exchanges between young people across the Strait.

According to a press conference held last week, the event shall see nearly 1,500 youth from Taiwan take part in 14 activities to be held in Fuzhou in five days.

Hang Dong, vice mayor of the Fuzhou municipal people's government revealed that this year will not only feature more events, but will also explore ways to boost cross-Straits integration and fuel economic growth of Fuzhou,

Since its inception in 2013, the festival has garnered attendance of over 20,000 cross-Straits young people including more than 8,000 from Taiwan, making it an important platform for communication and exchanges between young people across the Strait.

On the basis of its geographical proximity and cultural similarities with Taiwan, Fuzhou has devoted great efforts in deepening people-to-people exchanges across the Strait.

According to Hang, Fuzhou houses five national or provincial level bases and exchange centers that aim to boost the links with Taiwan. Thirty-seven events it hosts around the year have been listed by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council as key cross-Straits exchange programs.
