Cross-Straits online trading platform for agricultural and fishery products launched

Expanding cross-Strait agricultural and fishery trade cooperation meets the needs of grassroots people on both sides of the Strait, noted Chen Shanguang, Party chief of the Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone.

Pingtan has prominent advantages when it comes to trade with Taiwan, such as geographic proximity, multiple shipping routes and fast customs clearing, which make it possible for Taiwan fruits picked up in the morning to be sold on the market in Pingtan the next day, according to Chen.

The city to date has opened direct sea freight routes to the cities of Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung in Taiwan.

A total of 51 trips have been made between Pingtan and Kaohsiung so far, transporting 1,329 TEUs loaded with agricultural and fishery products valued at 115 billion yuan since the route linking the two cities opened in Jan 20, official data show.
