Fujian received 5.22 million tourists including 1.2 million overnight visitors during the tomb-sweeping holiday, up 17.6 percent from last year, local authorities said.

Over the three-day break which lasts from Friday to Sunday, the tourism revenue reached 4.145 billion yuan ($614 million) in the province, soaring by 23.3 percent year-on-year.

Data from Crip and LY.com, China's two leading online travel platforms, show that Xiamen was the third hottest domestic tourism destinations.

While tourists still favor sites of natural scenes, an increasing number of people chose to visit history museums, martyrs' memorial halls and memorial sites of revolution during the holiday.

The newly opened Xiamen Jimei Library, the Fuzhou Shangxiahang cultural and historical block as well as the abalone culture festival in Quanzhou attracted numerous visitors.

Rural scenic spots also saw rising popularity while travels with families and friends expanded substantially.

The Tomb-sweeping Day, or Qingming Festival, is an important occasion for Chinese people to honor their ancestors. Many also spent the three-day holiday on leisure travel.
