During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period, Fujian province has accomplished the tasks required for education reform and development, making prominent progress in all levels of education.

The preschool education enrollment rate in Fujian province reached 98.81 percent during this period, 13.61 percentage points higher than the national average.

In 2017, Gulou district in Fuzhou invested 100 million yuan ($15.66 million) to build and support more inclusive kindergartens near communities in an effort to address the problems of insufficient kindergarten availability, as well as high tuition fees.

The education gap between urban and rural areas has been a persistent problem across China.

To address this, Fujian has been promoting the integrated development of its nine-year compulsory education program in urban and rural areas, consolidating achievements while boosting rural revitalization efforts.

To share teaching experiences and enhance communication in the education sector, the Affiliated Primary School of Fujian Normal University in Fuzhou has established partner-assistance relationships with many primary schools in the province.

Over the past five years, senior high schools in Fujian have aimed to enhance the overall development of students by constantly improving teaching quality and offering various characteristic extracurricular activities for students.

Fuzhou No. 7 Middle School has fostered 15 student communities covering fields including martial arts, literature, street dance, choruses, and astronomy. It hosts a group activity every year to showcase students' achievements and talents.

Universities in Fujian have been working to serve society, bolster the economy, and promote rural revitalization.

In August 2021, Fuzhou University and Fusshia Technology Company developed ultraviolet photocatalytic complex disinfection equipment for cold chain packaging, which provides new technologies, new equipment, as well as new methods for disinfection and sterilization in cold chain logistics.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, Fujian province will continue to focus on the high-quality development of education, as well as accelerate the construction of high-level universities to build an innovative, open, and diversified higher education system.
