Fujian promotes tea in Malaysia

East China's Fujian province launched a tea promotion event in Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia on June 27.

Sponsored by the Fujian Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Areas, the event attracted more than 150 representatives from Malaysian government, business circles, tea circles and overseas Chinese organizations.

Tea has long been an important commodity in economic and trade exchanges between China and the countries along the maritime silk road, especially the countries in Southeast Asia.

China and Malaysia are friendly neighbors and important partner. Fujian aims to promote a variety of teas in Malaysia in hopes of enabling more people know and love Fujian tea so as promote bilateral connectivity and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

In prior to the promotional conference, the Fujian delegation of tea enterprises also attended the 20th edition of Malaysia International Food and Beverage Exhibition.

Through product display, tea art performance and on-site tea tasting, the residents of Kuala Lumpur felt the unique charm of tea produced in Fujian.

The delegation also visited well-known local tea enterprises such as Guanghuifeng and Wisteria Group to tap business opportunities.

Malaysia has been the first stop of the tea promotional campaign Fujian has initiated this year to cement trade links with the countries along the maritime silk road. The 10-day event shall still include Hungary and Poland.

In 2018, exports of teas from the province reached 24,000 tons of tea valued at $350 million, representing increases of 23.4 percent and 44.8 percent year on year respectively.
