The Blue Bay comprehensive remediation action project (sea area of Quanzhou Bay) of Quanzhou, a city in East China's Fujian province, has received financial support from the central government for marine ecological protection and restoration.

With a total investment of 351 million yuan ($50.84 million), the project applied for 187 million yuan from the central government. It is the most extensive marine ecological protection and restoration project ever approved by the country in Quanzhou.

The project's marine zone is in the experimental area of the Quanzhou Bay Estuary Wetland Provincial Nature Reserve.

The goal is to gradually restore the wetland ecosystem in the reserve by introducing non-invasive plants, restoration of the mangrove and coastal environments, and bird habitat creation.

It will improve the self-sustainability, disaster mitigation and prevention capabilities, and ecological service functions of the ecosystem and maintain biodiversity and environmental balance.
