This transformation is being driven by companies exploring new industrial applications. In Shaowu and Yong'an, enterprises are developing bamboo-based materials for sectors including new energy, green packaging, and construction. Bamboo-derived hard carbon is also being developed as an anode material for sodium-ion batteries and is expected to reduce raw material costs by about 30 percent compared with imported materials.

Supporting the transition is a growing research network. Universities and research institutes are developing technologies to improve bamboo processing, enhance product performance, and expand high-value applications. A provincial expert panel on the bamboo industry has also been established to identify technical bottlenecks and coordinate key research projects across the industrial chain.

To accelerate commercialization, Fujian has introduced funding programs, technology platforms, and pilot projects covering smart manufacturing, processing equipment, and new materials, with some bamboo-based products already being promoted through demonstration projects in green packaging and municipal infrastructure projects.

Fujian aims to raise the industry's output value to more than 150 billion yuan ($20.92 billion) by 2030, while expanding innovation-driven applications and accelerating the commercialization of new technologies.
