Gulangyu Island, a popular tourist destination in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, will waive its entrance fee for the nation's medical workers this year, Fujian Daily reported on Feb 19.

The Management Office of Gulangyu Island said that the move is meant to honor the doctors and nurses on the frontlines of the national campaign against the novel coronavirus epidemic.

According to the report, medical workers with the proper certificates, along with accompanying family members, will enjoy free admission until Dec 31.

Gulangyu Island, also known as "Piano Island", was designated as a UNESCO heritage site in 2017.
