Red culture in western Fujian province: Longyan strives to improve economy and quality of life

A tour in Longyan, East China's Fujian province in December provided new insights into the meaning of well-balanced economic development and livelihood improvement for visiting officials and media members.

Longyan in western Fujian province, an old revolutionary base area, has been dubbed the home of the Hakka people in China, with 75 percent of the population being of Hakka descent.

In recent years, the city has spared no efforts in developing its economy, improving quality of life, and eradicating poverty.

Longyan National Hi-tech Industry Development Zone

The Longyan National Hi-tech Industry Development Zone is the only development zone that combines functions of a state-level economic and technological development zone with a state-level high-tech zone.

More than 600 enterprises, including 66 industrial enterprises with annual revenue of 20 million yuan ($2.87 million) or more and eight listed enterprises, have set up operations in the zone. The Longyan National Hi-tech Industry Development Zone has formed a stable and systematic industrial cluster of construction machinery, environmental science and technology special vehicles, new energy vehicles and biomedicine.

Longyan National Hi-tech Industry Development Zone has taken full advantage of national preferential policies, especially for the old revolutionary base areas, and concentrated on the research and development (R&D) and production of local vehicles for special purposes produced by Lonking Group and Fulongma Group. The development zone realized a gross output of 6.64 billion yuan in 2018, said Li Shanchang, secretary of the Party working committee of the Longyan National Hi-tech Industry Development Zone.

Longjin Lake Park

In addition to mobilizing more resources in developing the economy in Longyan, the municipal government has put forward and carried out a series of projects to improve quality of life.

Longjin Lake Park is a testament to Longyan's dedication to improving the livelihood of its residents.

Longjin Lake Park is nestled within the city's downtown area.

It is the key livelihood project for Fujian province and Longyan city in integrating the local characteristics of Hakka culture.
