Pingtan Impression, a dance drama by renowned Chinese dancer-choreographer Yang Liping, concluded its national tour in 2019 on July 28, local media reported.

The drama’s producer is mulling launching another tour with the aim to strengthen cultural exchanges with Austronesian language-spoken countries as well as those along maritime silk road.

The show shines a spotlight on Pingtan, an island city located off the coast of Fujian and the closet place on the mainland to Taiwan.

Weaving together different strands from the city's traditional folk culture such as snippets of local dialect, legends, puppet and marionette shows, the 100-min-long drama depicts the island city's beauty and originality.

Since its debut in Fuzhou in January last year, it has toured 37 cities in 15 provinces nationwide, reaching over 120,000 viewers. As for 2019, 51 sessions were staged in 23cities including Beijing, Xi 'an and Hohhot, with more than 70,000 viewers. Starting from 2020, it is likely to become a regular show in Pingtan.

Yang is famed for appearing in the performance art show Dynamic Yunnan, which has toured all across China, selling out many large venues.
