A peanut festival launched by cross-Straits entrepreneurs opened in Changqing town, Yongtai county in Fujian province on July 13, as vast stretches of peanuts entered harvest season in the town recently.

Peanut is a characteristic produce in Changqing, according to Chen chengqin, head of the town. Now, peanut's plantation stands at 225 mu in the town, with annual net profits of over 100,000 yuan.

It was the first time the town to hold such a festival and Shiu Jiunshiung, a Taiwan resident is one of the organizers.

After visiting Changqing a few times, the Taiwan entrepreneur decided to start up his business by growing peanuts.

According to Shiu, he has established two companies in Changqing in hopes of building a characteristic agro-brand by introducing technologies and experience from Taiwan. Li Panlung, an art designer from Taiwan, said that more Taiwan young people should explore opportunities and possibilities on the mainland, adding that their efforts will not only help promote special agricultural products such as peanuts, but also attract more young people to return home, injecting new impetus for rural development.
