Yongchun county in East China's Fujian province will construct a general airport, as the local authorities reached an consensus with ZWSJ Airline Group in late May.

The airport with an investment ranging from six to eight billion yuan ($1,195 million), shall be built in three phases at a cost of six to eight years.

In a bid to construct a world-class aviation economic zone in the city based on the airport,a flurry of related facilities such as an aviation industrial park and a residential community shall be built nearby.

Experts pointed out that the airport shall further increase Yongtai's traffic advantage, boosting the city's economic growth as well as global awareness and recognition.

By the virtue of the proximity to Fuzhou, capital city of Fujian, Yongtai has embraced robust economic development in recent years and is renowned for its well-preserved ecology and rich tourism resources.

In 2018, the city was designed a national demonstration county for ecological development and city sanitation.

Fujian rolled out a guideline on seeking the development of general aviation industry in 2017.

According to the document, the province aims to build more than 10 general airports by 2020, with services covering all the municipal cities across the province. By 2030, the services are targeted to reach all the counties.

In addition to Yongtai, Anxi, another county in Fujian famous for producing Tieguanyin, a premium variety of oolong tea, will also construct a general airport, according to a press conference in mid-March.

The airport with an investment of roughly 5.2 billon yuan, shall be composed of two phases, covering 3,000 mu (200 hectares) in total.
