Chinese runner Jin Mingming claimed the women's full marathon title with a time of 2 hours 41 minutes and 7 seconds at the 2018 Jinjiang International Marathon on Dec 9.

"It is frigid in Jinjiang, and it's tough for me in the second half, but I kept running at my own rhythm, so the result is within my expectations," Jin said in an interview after the race.

The men's crown went to Tara Gabrielle Merkel. The Ethiopian runner hit the finish line in 2:25:11.

Roughly 12,000 marathoners from over 20 countries and regions including Ethiopia, Kenya, Russia, the Philippines took part in the event.

The 2018 edition of the race, consisting of a full marathon, a half marathon and a 7.8-kilometer course, is jointly sponsored by China Athletics Association, Fujian Provincial Bureau of sports and Jinjiang Municipal People's Government.

Jinjiang is set to host Gymnasiade 2020, after it won the bid to hold the international youth sports event on Oct 16, 2017.

The county-level city in East China's Fujian province will be the second Chinese city to host the Gymnasiade after Shanghai in 1998.
