A coastal province in East China, Fujian has been on the fast lane of extensive economic development as a spearhead in the country's reform and opening-up since 1978.

A dynamic economic powerhouse

Fujian's gross domestic product (GDP) jumped from nearly 2 trillion yuan to 3.2 trillion yuan ($510.8 billion) from 2012 to 2017, recording an average annual growth of 9.3 percent, official data shows.

The growth rate outpaced the national average, which stood at 6.7 percent over the period.

A test bed for reform and innovation

The State Council approved setting up the China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone in late 2014, aiming to boost cross-Straits links and promote economic ties between Fujian and the economies involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Fujian FTZ pioneers in policy reform and innovation. It to date has introduced 285 policies to promote trade and investment. A total of 110 reform practices developed in the free trade zone are being promoted around the province. Numerous practices such as the one window for all procedures system, which allow international traders to submit all regulatory documents at a single location and the issuance of a unified business license with a unified social credit code rolled out in the FTZ have been promoted nationwide.
