Symposium focuses on Silk Road documentary heritages

An international symposium that revolves around protecting and utilizing Silk Road documentary heritages was held in Fuzhou, capital of East China's Fujian province on Nov 6.

Li Minghua, director of the National Archives Administration of China, pointed out documentary heritages bears the profound history of the Silk Road andthat protecting and utilizing those items is instrumental in promoting the spirit of the Silk Road especially peace, cooperation, openness, inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit and boost cultural exchanges among participating countries.

He also noted that hosting such a conference is a necessity, saying that it has offered a cooperative and exchange platform for global scholars and experts to contribute intelligence and strength into the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative as well as the bright future of the mankind.

Liang Jianyong, director of the Fujian Provincial Department of Publicity, congratulated the symposium's opening, saying Fujian highly values the conservation and utilizing of documentary heritages and that currently it is actively promoting the preservation, digitalization and dissemination of the maritime Silk Road documentaries.

The symposium also saw the establishment of the Fujian academic center of NESCO's Memory of the World Program,which an international initiative launched to safeguard the documentary heritage of humanity. It calls for the preservation of valuable archival holdings, library collections and private individual compendia all over the world.
