Yu Weiguo meets Indonesian former president

Yu Weiguo, Party chief of Fujian, met the visiting Indonesian delegation headed by Megawati Sukarnoputri, leader of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle on Nov 5.

Yu, on behalf of the CPC Fujian provincial committee and the government, extended warm welcome to the delegation and congratulated Megawati, also former president of Indonesia, on receiving an honorary doctorate by the Fujian Normal University.

China and Indonesia have traditional bilateral friendship in the long run and are natural partners in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, Yu said, adding that with joint efforts from top leaders, the two countries has witnessed increasingly closer ties over the past years.

Currently Fujian is furthering reform and opening-up, eager to ride the waves of the Belt and Road Initiative by building itself into the core are of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, he added, expressing the hope that Megawati's visit could further consolidate the ties between Fujian and Indonesia, deepening the two places' collaboration and exchanges in multiple fields including economy, trade, culture and tourism, thus bringing benefits to the people of both countries.

Megawati expressed her gratitude for Fujian government's hospitality and recalled her visit to China in 2002, when she met President Xi Jinping, then the governor of Fujian.

For the visit to Fujian this time, Megawati said that she was  impressed by the great changes and remarkable accomplishments Fujian had achieved, adding that she hopes both sides could advance cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

More efforts should be made to seek joint development in the sectors including production capacity, trade, education and tourism by fully leveraging each other's strengths, thus infusing new vitality into the two countries'friendly relations, Megawati noted.
