Wearing animal masks, students from Fuzhou University displayed slogans recently in public places in Fuzhou, capital of East China's Fujian province, to call for more public efforts in animal protection.

A series of activities were rolled out by seven colleges and universities across China, including Fuzhou University, Shanghai Normal University, and Ocean University of China to mark World Animal Day, an international day of action for animal rights and welfare marked every year on Oct 4.

The activities, aiming to raise people's awareness of respecting and protecting animals, included imitating animals in the form of costumes and mask, speeches advocating animal rights, and stage plays.
