The Fifth Ocean Cup China (Pingtan) International Cycling Tournament is set to hit the road in Pingtan, Fujian province on June 7-10, according to a news release on Wednesday.

The race, the first to combine ocean culture with a cycling race in the country, is part of the island city's promotional campaign for World Ocean Day, which falls on June 8 yearly.

To ensure a more enjoyable experience as well as the safety of all riders, the race organizers have restricted the number of entrants to 2,500 and extended the route to reach the Beigang village near the city's Junshan Scenic Area. A series of fantastic performances and interactive activities will be held on the sidelines of the race, including a fun cycling race, a children's painting contest and a photography competition.

A high profile international sports event, the tournament is enjoying its fifth edition this year and is expected to further increase Pingtan's profile across the world as it builds itself into an international tourism island.
