According to Lai Qingzheng, head of Huian county, the expo, in addition to displaying products, is also a great opportunity for investment and cooperation, and a wonderful platform for communication and contest.

Dazzling arrays of activities are set to be held on the sidelines of the expo. They include contests, forums, symposiums, promotion conferences, as well as performances related to carving arts and skills.

International exchanges have turned to be a prominent highlight of the expo.

A total of 263 enterprises from more than 20 countries and regions including America, Germany, France and Italy are participating in the event. An exhibition show, featuring 38 stone carvings made by 20 artists from Carrara, Italy and 54 ones crafted by 35 Huian local masters, were exhibited at the Dingli Art Gallery in the city on Wednesday afternoon.

The stones, representing highest level of the two carving schools from different cultural backgrounds, brought expo-goers a fabulous aesthetic experience.

The expo, which is scheduled to last until Nov 13, is set to give a new impetus to the development of Huian, home to a 20 billion yuan stone carving industry.
